Samsung's Harman Partners with Groupe PSA on Vehicle Cybersecurity

Harman International Industries, the connected car and audio technology company acquired by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in 2017, has announced a new cybersecurity collaboration with European automaker Groupe PSA. At the Geneva International Motor Show Wednesday, the companies revealed they are collaborating on a cybersecurity strategy for Groupe PSA’s next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles platform.The companies have worked on multiple projects together over the past two years.

Groupe PSA is a French multinational auto manufacturer, producing cars and motorcycles under the brands Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, and Vauxhall. It is the second-largest automaker in Europe.

Harman was purchased by Samsung in 2017 for $8 billion and now operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer, and enterprise markets. In 2016, Harman bought Israel-based automotive cybersecurity company TowerSec Inc., setting it up as its cybersecurity division. “Groupe PSA has been focusing on cyber for the last five years, launching a partnership with the Harman Automotive Cybersecurity team to leverage their expertise and define the necessary cyber security measures for Groupe PSA’s next-generation architecture,” Eric Dequi, senior expert on automotive electronic architecture and cybersecurity for connected cars at Groupe PSA, said in a statement. Mr. Dequi added that Groupe PSA has implemented Harman’s ECUSHIELD technology on a Peugeot car to establish a proof-of-concept.
