New Database Traces Technologies Emerging From Israeli Academia

The database traces patents, companies, and researchers making their way through technology transfer organizations associated with Israeli academic institutions

Start-Up Nation Central (SNC), a Tel Aviv-based non-profit organization managing a database of Israeli tech companies, has launched a new index which maps over 1,300 technologies emerging from Israeli universities and research and medical institutions.

The new database traces patents, companies, and researchers making their way through technology transfer organizations (TTO) associated with local academic institutions, and is served as a layer to SNC’s existing database of Israeli startup companies.

Among the notable companies that have emerged from Israeli TTOs are autonomous vehicle technology company Mobileye, bought by Intel in 2017 for $15 billion; DayTwo Ltd., an Israeli startup that analyzes the DNA of gut microbiomes to provide highly individualized dietary recommendations; and Nasdaq-listed ReWalk Robotics Ltd., which develops exoskeleton walking aids for people suffering from spinal cords injuries.

Of the 1,300 technologies mapped by the new database, 323 are in the field of life sciences and biotech, 132 are in the field of material science and chemistry, and 53 are in the field of food and agriculture technologies.

 

“Academia is the main pillar of the Israeli tech ecosystem and TTOs serve as a bridge between cutting-edge academic research and a global community of entrepreneurs, startups, investors, and corporates,” Eugene Kandel, CEO of Start-Up Nation Central, said in a statement.
