Israel has seen an 84% rise in the number of vehicles on its roads between 2000 and 2017, according to a new report by the country’s Central Bureau of Statistics, released Sunday. During the same period, the total length of roads in Israel increased by just 19%, and in terms of square meters, construction added just 45% to the area taken by roads in the country. According to the report, the total number of kilometers driven by motor vehicles in Israel in 2017 amounted to 59.6 billion, a 4.2% rise in comparison to the previous year.
