Medtronic CEO Lands in Israel, Set to Meet with Netanyahu

Medtronic PLC CEO Omar Ishrak has landed in Israel Sunday, accompanies by senior company executives. Medtronic’s team is set to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Economy Eli Cohen on Wednesday, and take part in the ICI Meeting 2018, an annual conference on innovation in cardiovascular systems that will be held in Tel Aviv on December 2-4.

The team is visiting Israel to scout for new acquisitions and to advance its partnership with the Israeli healthcare system, according to one person familiar with the matter who spoke with Calcalist on condition of anonymity.

Ishrak is accompanied by the company’s president of EMEA Rob ten Hoedt, and by the heads of Medtronic’s four business units: cardiac and vascular group president Michael Coyle, diabetes group president Hooman Hakami, restorative therapies group president Geoffrey Martha, and minimally invasive therapies group president Bob White.
Yaron Itzhar, Medtronic’s country director in Israel, will also accompany Ishrak.

In October, the company announced the acquisition of Israel-based surgical robotics company Mazor Robotics Ltd. for $1.34 billion.
Earlier this month, Medtronic announced an agreement to acquire Tel Aviv-headquartered Nutrino Health Ltd., which uses personal data such as activity and food logs, medical data points including blood tests and insulin levels, and data generated by wearables and social media, to create personalized nutrition recommendations. The company is set to officially sign the agreement during the visit.
