Companies looking to compete in the awards must pay a nomination fee of $1,000, and winners are selected by a judging panel composed of over 3,000 business executives and academics in relevant industries. A percentage of the Edison Awards proceeds goes towards an innovation scholarship program operated by the nonprofit.
Notable winners this year include IBM, which nabbed both the gold and silver prizes in the next gen computing subcategory as well as prizes in several other categories; Major League Baseball, which was awarded gold at the sports analytics category; Unilever, which took gold in home solutions; and Medtronic, which topped the diabetes management subcategory.
