Number of U.S. Patents Granted to Israeli Universities Drops in 2018

In a list of top 100 global universities granted U.S. patents, Tel Aviv University dropped two places compared to 2017, ranking 66th with 37 patents. With 32 patents, Technion dropped to 75th place, compared to 35th place the year before

The number of U.S. utility patents granted to Israeli universities in the U.S. has declined in 2018, according to The Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents in 2018 list published last week by the National Academy of Inventors and American nonprofit the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Tel Aviv University’s technology transfer arm Ramot dropped two places compared to 2017, ranking 66th with 37 patents; with 32 patents, Technion Israel Institute of Technology dropped to 75th place, compared to 35th the year before. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which was ranked 82nd in 2017, did not make the cut this year. Topping this year’s list is the University of California with 526 patents granted, followed by MIT, with 304 patents.
