Using Cannabis at Home Should not Lead to a Criminal Record, Says Former Israeli Police Chief

The medical cannabis industry is not a bubble, according to former Israel Police chief Yohanan Danino. Currently the chairman of cannabis company Together Pharma Ltd., Danino spoke Wednesday at the annual conference on capital markets held in Tel Aviv by Calcalist in collaboration with the Israeli branch of international accounting firm BDO and Israel-based Psagot Investment House Ltd.

“The means of production are there, the farms are there, the bio-technological level is advanced, the manufacturing facilities linked to the farms are top notch,” Danino said.

Photo: Aner Green Pharmaceutical companies are reluctant to enter the field of medical cannabis for financial reasons and the difficulty of patenting developments, but that is going to change as more and more countries legalize the medical use of the plant, he said.

“I am against legalization (of cannabis) but I believe the law must be adjusted—I do not think that a normal citizen should have a criminal record for using cannabis at home,” Danino said.
