“First and foremost people should not buy more food than they need and get creative and inventive with the food they have in the fridge. And anything you have that you aren’t going to eat has so much environmental and nutritional goodness in it that you should give it to another human and that is why Olio exists,” ‍explained Saasha Celestial-One, Co-Founder and COO at Olio, speaking with CTech during the Mind the Tech London 2022 conference.
Olio aims to connect neighbors with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from the baker, or groceries in a fridge.

“We started in the UK but we have seen Olio food sharing take place successfully in 62 differint countries and that is because we have grown through a grassroots volunteer model,” noted Celestial-One. “We have over 100,000 volunteers building communities all around the world so you can really use Olio wherever you want to.”
