Meta lays off 5% of its Israeli workforce in latest job cuts

Tech giant dismisses 40 employees as it moves forward with 3,600 global job cuts announced in January.

Meta has begun layoffs at its Israeli offices, with employees receiving notices on Monday morning for pre-dismissal hearings. This move is part of the company's global round of layoffs that started this week. Calcalist estimates that approximately 40 employees will be laid off from Meta Israel’s workforce of around 900—about 5% of the company's local employees, a rate consistent with the global layoffs in this round. Meta Israel has not responded to requests for comment.
In January, Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to cut 3,600 jobs, amounting to 5% of the company’s 74,000 employees. Unlike previous rounds of layoffs in recent years, Zuckerberg stated that this wave was not primarily aimed at reducing the company’s overall workforce—which has been growing in recent quarters—but rather at letting go of what he described as "low-performing employees."

Over the weekend, Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale, announced that the layoffs would begin on Monday and affect employees across multiple global offices, including those in Australia, China, India, Singapore, Israel, Poland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Denmark.
