Lior Goldberg appointed as CTO of blockchain unicorn StarkWare

Lior Goldberg, one of StarkWare’s earliest employees, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO). StarkWare, valued at $8 billion in 2022, is an Israeli company that develops infrastructure for blockchain, led by Prof Eli Ben-Sasson, CEO and co-founder. The “scaling” technology developed by the company creates the infrastructure needed for mass-adoption of crypto and blockchain. StarkWare has built scaling infrastructure for Ethereum, the second biggest blockchain, and is working on similar projects for Bitcoin. StarkWare has over 200 employees, in Israel and abroad, and continues to recruit for various positions.
Goldberg joined StarkWare seven years ago. Back then, the company had no plans to invent its own programming language but Goldberg, working with colleagues, recognized that doing so would promote widespread use of the company’s cryptography. Today, the language, Cairo, is used by blockchain developers internationally. Goldberg played central roles in advancing StarkWare’s engineering achievements.
One such central role involved building and leading the Starknet engineering team from scratch. Starknet, a Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum, is one of StarkWare's key innovations, enabling users to develop software and applications on Ethereum while maintaining decentralization, security, scalability, and significantly reducing transaction costs.
