Salaries falling for senior high-tech roles, job search duration increasing
According to data collected from August 2022 to August 2023, the salary for positions that require at least eight years of experience has decreased across the board
There has been a steady decrease in salaries for senior employee or B-level roles in tech as well as an increased job search duration in the last year, according to data shared with CTech by Israeli recruitment firm Ethosia. This is consistent with earlier data reported regarding junior roles, although the drop in salary and increased job search time is not as extreme.
According to the data, collected from August 2022 to August 2023, the salary for senior roles (positions that require at least eight years of experience) has decreased almost across the board. Although it has slightly decreased, devops engineers report the highest salary at 32,000-35,000 NIS ($8,366-9,150).
The lowest salary remains that of chemical engineers at 18,000-22,000 NIS ($4,707-5,753), which alone of all salaries reported remained entirely unchanged in the last year.
The job search duration has also increased for all roles. The longest job search length is for front-end software engineers which has more than doubled from 5 to 11 weeks. Junior front-end engineers also reported the longest job search length among junior roles.

1. Front-end software engineer
What: Front-end engineers are responsible for designing and implementing the user interface and user experience of a software application or website.
Salary: The salary has decreased from 27,000-29,000 NIS ($7,057-7,580) to 25,000-27,000 NIS ($6,534-7,057).
Job search duration: The job search duration has more than doubled from 5 to 11 weeks.
2. Back-end software engineer
What: Back-end engineers focus on developing and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and infrastructure that power software applications.
Salary: The salary has dropped from 32,000-35,000 NIS ($8,367-9,152) to 30,000-33,000 NIS ($7,843-8,628).
Job search duration: The job search length has grown from 3.5 to 5 weeks.
3. Real-time embedded engineer
What: Real-time embedded engineers specialize in designing, developing, and optimizing software and systems that control and interact with physical devices in real-time.
Salary: The salary has decreased from 33,000-36,000 NIS ($8,628-9,412) to 30,000-33,000 NIS ($7,843-8,628).
Job search duration: The job search duration has risen from 4 to 6 weeks.
4. DevOps engineer
What: DevOps engineers combine development and operations practices to facilitate the continuous integration, deployment, and management of software applications and systems.
Salary: The salary has decreased from 35,000-39,000 NIS ($9,150-10,196) to 32,000-35,000 NIS ($8,366-9,150), remaining the highest reported salary.
Job search duration: The job search duration has increased from 2.5 to 4 weeks.
5. Hardware board design engineer
What: Hardware board design engineers create and design the physical circuit boards that contain electronic components for devices or systems.
Salary: Salary has decreased from 27,000-31,000 NIS ($7,063-8,110) to 26,000-29,000 NIS ($6,802-7,587).
Job search duration: The job search duration has increased from 5 to 8 weeks.
6. ASIC hardware engineer
What: ASIC hardware engineers work on the design and development of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits, which are custom-designed integrated circuits for specific tasks.
Salary: The salary has decreased from 32,000-36,000 NIS ($8,366-9,412) to 31,000-34,000 NIS ($8,111-8,896).
Job search duration: The job search duration has nearly increased from 4 to 6.5 weeks.
7. RF engineer
What: RF (radio frequency) engineers focus on designing, optimizing, and maintaining wireless communication systems and components that operate in the radio frequency spectrum.
Salary: The salary has remained almost the same from 29,000-34,000 NIS ($7,580-8,896) to 29,000-32,000 NIS ($7,580-8,367).

8. Verification engineer

9. Mechanical engineer

10. Test automation engineer

11. Data engineer

12. Algorithm engineer

13. Chemical engineer
