President Biden confirms trip to Israel amid Gaza war
The journey will take place as part of a larger visit to the Middle East as tensions rise in the region
U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that President Biden will be traveling to Israel on Wednesday following the war that broke out after Hamas killed more than 1,300 Israelis. The visit takes place as the IDF prepares an offensive against Hamas terrorists in Gaza as retaliation and an attempt to save the hundreds of Israelis still kept captive.
The trip will be a chance to demonstrate the president’s support for Israel and affirm to its people that the U.S. supports Israel’s efforts to minimize civilian casualties as it enters Gaza. According to reports, he intends to hear from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about plans for the ground offensive expected to take place soon.
Meanwhile, rockets from Gaza have been directed at Egypt’s Rafah crossing and vehicles have blocked the roads that would assist the Palestinians in their move south away from war targets, worsening the humanitarian situation within its borders.
Iran, which supports Hamas, has warned that it might take “pre-emptive” action against Israel in the next few hours, per BBC.
Since 7/10, more than 1,300 people in Israel have been killed by Hamas. An additional 2,700 people have died in Gaza during Israel’s retaliation, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is an arm of Hamas and a registered terror organization.
