Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has selected the Israeli startup C2A Security's EVSec platform to manage its cyber protection needs. The deal was facilitated by consulting giant Accenture and chosen for its ability to address cybersecurity regulations faced by automotive manufacturers today.
"Providing a response in the field of cybersecurity is not a job for experts only, but a challenge that everyone has to face as one team," said Roy Fridman, CEO of C2A Security. "Using our product security platform makes it possible to support collaboration within the company's departments, as well as with suppliers, thus enabling efficient and quick decision-making. It's an automated process that can reduce resources and costs, while complying with standards and regulations."
As car makers increasingly rely on software to power modern vehicles—introducing over-the-air updates, cloud applications, and more advanced in-vehicle experiences—the need for robust cybersecurity solutions has grown. Regulations such as the United Nations' UN R155 require auto manufacturers to implement cybersecurity measures across the entire lifecycle of a vehicle, from design and production to ongoing operation.
This regulation, which entered into force in all EU countries, led other companies like Porsche and Volkswagen to take models off the road earlier this year to avoid millions of euros in fines and potential loss of their Type Approval in EU countries. C2A Security's EVSec platform automates compliance with relevant standards and regulations to simplify these processes, which are critical to business success by increasing efficiency and improving cost savings.
"We wanted to bring secure, advanced connected services to the market faster," added Hideaki Inoue, Assistant General Manager, Mobility Business Division, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. "Therefore, we needed to work with external professionals. Accenture's expertise and drive, which were with us each step from process design to TARA execution, plus C2A Security’s solution, enabled us to achieve TARA of consistent quality in a short period of time."
Mitsubishi Motors is not only integrating C2A’s platform to meet these new standards but also preparing to use it for the security of its upcoming smart charging service for electric vehicles, set for deployment in 2024.
C2A Security was founded in 2016 by Michael Dick and is headquartered in Jerusalem.
