Check Point acquiring cyber startup Atmosec in second purchase in less than a month
The move comes after Check Point acquired Israel’s Perimeter 81 for $490 million last month
Check Point announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Israeli cybersecurity startup Atmosec. An early-stage startup, Atmosec specializes in the rapid discovery and disconnection of malicious SaaS applications, preventing risky 3rd party SaaS communications, and rectifying SaaS misconfigurations.
The move comes less than a month after Check Point acquired Israel’s Perimeter 81 for $490 million, the second-most it has ever paid for a company. Check Point, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, is known for its reluctance toward large acquisitions, with its typical cap not exceeding $100 million. The terms of the deal with Atmosec were not disclosed, but it is estimated that this purchase is more along those lines.
Atmosec was founded in January 2021 and employs 17 employees. The startup completed a $6 million Seed round led by Glilot Capital Partners and Battery Ventures in December 2021. Additional funding also came directly from Armis Co-Founders Yevgeny Dibrov (CEO) and Nadir Izrael (CTO); Wiz Co-Founder and CEO Assaf Rappaport; and Ofer Ben-Noon, Co-Founder and CEO of Talon Cyber.
Atmosec helps companies overcome the challenge of monitoring risk assessments of new connections from third-party services such as Slack, Dropbox, Google Workplace, and others.
The company achieves this by tracking the behavioral approach of applications and using contextual analysis to monitor the behavior of the applications themselves. This means that Atmosec can understand what is occurring between numerous applications and allow for quick detection of anomalies that can then be handled by organizations.
Atmosec was founded by Aner Gelman (CEO), Misha Seltzer (CTO), and Shaked Gitelman (VP R&D) and the company participated in Intel’s startup growth program, Intel Ignite.
“The shift to SaaS applications introduces specific challenges, notably in the realm of malicious SaaS-to-SaaS communications. Atmosec's capabilities in SaaS discovery, risk assessment, and full visibility are instrumental in addressing these challenges,” said Nataly Kremer, Chief Product Officer and Head of R&D at Check Point. “Integrating Atmosec’s technology into Check Point Infinity sets us to deliver one of the industry's most secure SASE solutions, enabling organizations to effectively manage SaaS security, prevent data leaks, unauthorized access, and malware dissemination, and ensure a robust, adaptive zero trust environment.”
