Tomer Cohen, who has served as CEO of BuyMe for the past four years, will replace Lior Eshkol as General Manager of Wolt Israel. Eshkol, who has held the position since 2020, has been promoted to the company's global management. Wolt Israel has approximately 1,200 headquarters and customer service employees across its offices in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and Eilat.
Prior to his role at BuyMe, Cohen (36) founded the job placement company Jobit in collaboration with the TLC group and also established the Ximus forum for young CEOs.
Wolt dominates the restaurant delivery market in Israel, connecting millions of active customers with 8,000 businesses and about 20,000 independent couriers through its technological platform. In recent years, the company has expanded its activities into the food retail market, and as revealed by Calcalist, about 46% of the food orders from supermarkets in the app are from the stores it owns.
Globally, Wolt was founded in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, and has since expanded to 27 countries, mainly in Europe, arriving in Israel at the end of 2018. Since 2022, Wolt has been part of DoorDash, the American market leader in the field, which is traded on Nasdaq. Wolt currently serves as the international arm of the merged company, known as DoorDash International, which includes Wolt's 27 markets and DoorDash's three non-US markets in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
