Shomrim establishes emergency fund for Israeli journalists on the front lines
Out of a need to help the community of journalists in Israel, Shomrim, in dedicated cooperation with its supporters, established an ad hoc fund, which will provide support grants to journalists working in the combat zones in the south and north
Since the outbreak of the war with Hamas (Operation Iron Swords), on that murderous Saturday on October 7, journalists and media teams have been reporting from the front lines, risking their lives and working day and night to cover the unfolding events of the war in real time, providing the images, the sounds and difficult stories, and bringing them to the general public. They work tirelessly, many times risking their own lives, constantly exposed to the most difficult stories and horrors of war. They face not only tangible physical danger but also the unbearably heavy emotional and mental toll of their work.
Out of a desire to help the community of journalists in Israel, Shomrim in dedicated cooperation with his supporters, established an ad hoc fund, which will provide support grants to journalists who are on the front lines. The fund is designed to help GPO (Government Press Office) accredited Israeli journalists, photographers, videographers and sound technicians working in combat zones in the south and north. The fund will provide a one-time support grant of NIS 8,000 to journalists who meet the threshold conditions.
Shomrim - The Center for Media and Democracy in Israel, is an independent, non-profit media organization established with the aim of strengthening investigative journalism in Israel and working in cooperation with media outlets in Israel and around the world.
The unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7th exacted and continues to exact a heavy price on the State of Israel and Israeli society. Over 1,400 Israelis were murdered, more than 5,400 were injured and about 230 were abducted, including men, women and children who are being held hostage in the Gaza Strip. The unimaginable atrocities committed against the citizens of southern Israel shocked the country and the world.
