"I do not feel that Women's Day is necessary, because we work as equals"
Dr. Shachaf Shiber of Beilinson Hospital shared her experiences at the Calcalist conference on women and the economy. "Maybe I was lucky," she added
"I have to say that in the field of medicine, in terms of treatment of women - I did not face inequality. Women and men respected me. And it was not 'personal'. I am probably lucky, maybe I live in a bubble because I do not feel that Women's Day is necessary, because we work as equals. I must have been blessed," said Dr. Shachaf Shiber, head of the emergency department at Beilinson Hospital, speaking at the Calcalist conference on women and the economy.
"My team is 50% women and I have two deputies who are men. Some of my managers are also women. Maybe traditionally there are more women in the health system because there are more nurses, but I feel that there is an equal team. We treat everyone, regardless of race and gender. Everyone is welcome."
"In the last year and a half, we established the home hospitalization unit, managed by a woman," added Shiber. "People with certain diagnoses, who have a source of support at home, we transfer them to their homes and provide them with care at home. There is trauma in hospitalization, especially for older people, when you tear them away from the familiar environment.
"Every hospitalization lowers life expectancy. Thanks to home hospitalization, people are exposed to fewer infections, suffer less confusion - and we treat them just as well. We did a study and in the end we saw that mortality decreased, infections decreased and satisfaction increased. I hope that in the future we can open a hospital with wards for home hospitalization. As remote hospitalization technology advances, we will be able to receive more diagnoses at home and solve, also financially, the load on the hospital."
