Snyk acquires cyber startup Helios for several tens of millions of dollars to boost cloud-to-code risk visibility
The cyber unicorn will combine Helios’ full-stack runtime data collection and insights with its developer security platform with the aim of providing customers a comprehensive picture of all company applications
Israeli-founded cybersecurity company Snyk is acquiring Israeli startup Helios to enhance its cloud-to-code risk visibility. The companies did not disclose the valuation of the deal, but it is estimated to be several tens of millions of dollars.
Snyk will combine Helios’ full-stack runtime data collection and insights with the Snyk Developer Security Platform with the aim of providing customers a comprehensive picture of all company applications, spanning the entire software development lifecycle.
The deal includes both cash and stock components, with Helios employees to join Snyk. Helios was founded in 2021 by Eli Cohen (CEO) and Ran Nozik (CTO). The startup, which employs 11 people in Israel and the U.S., raised $5 million in funding led by Entrée Capital and Amiti VC in June 2022.
This will be Snyk’s second acquisition in Israel after previously purchasing Enso Security for $32.7 million in June 2023.
Snyk was founded in 2015 by Israelis Assaf Hefetz, Danny Grander, and Guy Podjarny. The company's security product is aimed mainly at developers, providing a solution that finds and fixes vulnerabilities and license violations in open-source dependencies and container images. The company is currently headed by CEO Peter McKay.
Snyk, which has raised over $1.2 billion to date, employs over 1,000 people across Israel, the U.S., and Canada with a significant presence in London.
“As the pace and complexity of software development continues to rapidly increase, we’ve seen our global customers reap enormous productivity gains, but often at the cost of increased risk and critical security concerns,” said Snyk CEO Peter McKay. “This acquisition was executed with those valid concerns top of mind.”
“This is an incredible opportunity for the Helios team to join Snyk and change how the industry views ASPM, and we’re thrilled that our technology will immediately be able to help more AppSec and developer teams be successful,” said Eli Cohen, Co-Founder and CEO of Helios.
