"Success in the Japanese market depends on finding the right partner. It is critical to find the right partner," said Shinobu Kato, Regional Manager at Via Japan, speaking on a panel with Shinji Takeda, General Manager at Mori Building, and Yuta Iguchi, COO of Million Steps.
"When we entered Japan, we realized that it was not enough to invest money, but that we needed a serious and close partner," added Kato, who spoke in a conversation moderated by Yuta Iguchi, COO of Million Steps, a Tokyo-based boutique consulting firm. "This partner was the Japanese real estate giant Mori Building. We shared a vision, We were marching toward the same common goal. That was a key element in coordinating our teams," Kato added.
Shinji Takeda, General Manager at Mori Building, said: "We are responsible for the construction and operation of a number of commercial and business real estate properties in the Tokyo area. We met Via a few years ago. We wanted easy transportation, and we explored different options when we discovered the company. A Japanese company is considered to be a risk-averse company. We are a company created to take risks and have more options. It's part of our DNA. We wanted more partners. Via was not a huge company, but we understood that it would be an essential partner."
