Israelis feature prominently in Forbes' global billionaires list
The highest ranked Israeli in the annual ranking of billionaires is Eyal Ofer in 86th place, with an estimated fortune of $18.9 billion
Forbes’ annual ranking of the wealthiest people in the world includes 30 Israelis whose net worth is estimated at more than a billion dollars. The fortunes of 19 of the Israeli billionaires shrank in the past year, while only five increased.
The richest Israeli is Eyal Ofer with an estimated fortune of $18.9 billion, granting him 86th place on the list. The second highest ranking Israeli is his brother Idan Ofer, who was ranked 127th overall with an estimated personal fortune of $14 billion. Both rose in the ranking compared to last year, with Eyal Ofer's estimated wealth rising from $15.4 billion and Idan Ofer rising from $10.5 billion.
In third place among featured Israelis are the brothers Dmitri and Igor Bukhman who made their fortune in the gaming industry. They are ranked 332nd overall with a net worth of $7 billion. Shari Arison is the richest Israeli woman at $4.2 billion, ranking eighth in the list of Israelis and 659th in the general ranking.
The list includes businessman Arnon Milchan at $3.3 billion, who is ranked 878th overall. Milchan is considered a key witness in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing criminal trial. He and businessman James Packer are believed to have provided favors worth about NIS 700,000 to Netanyahu. Another known name, Adam Neumann, one of the founders of WeWork, rose from 2076th place to 1368th place on the list.
The list, entitled, “Forbes Billionaires 2023: The Richest People In The World” features 2,640 billionaires, a slight decrease from last year's figure of 2,668. In first place overall is Bernard Arnault, the owner of the luxury empire LVMH with a fortune of $211 billion. Elon Musk ranks second this year with $180 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos at $114 billion. The combined wealth of the billionaires on the list dropped by $500 billion to $12.2 trillion.
