Tesla freezes hiring in Israel amid global layoffs
Recruitment of candidates has been halted and job openings previously listed by Tesla Israel have been removed from the company's website
In the wake of reports regarding the layoff of 10% of Tesla employees worldwide, Tesla Israel has implemented a hiring freeze, despite the company still needing to fill positions in its new service center, Calcalist has learned. According to candidates in the midst of recruiting processes with the Israeli representatives of Tesla Israel, recruitment activities have been put on hold.
Simultaneously, the job openings previously listed by Tesla Israel in recent weeks have been removed from the company's website. This hiring freeze in Israel mirrors a global trend, with the manufacturer halting hiring in several locations across the world that aren't directly linked to production processes. However, the company is still actively recruiting workers for its factories in Germany and the USA.
For the Israeli car market, Tesla's hiring freeze comes at a challenging time: the manufacturer recently inaugurated its second Tesla center in Israel, located in Netanya. Unlike the company's existing service center in Petah Tikva, which solely offers garage services, the Netanya center also handles sales and trade-in services.
In recent weeks, Tesla had been hiring garage and service workers, but these efforts have now been halted. This move could potentially impede its ability to conduct comprehensive operations at the new Netanya site in the near future, which was slated to include trade-ins, deliveries, and car servicing. Tesla has chosen not to comment on these developments.
It's worth noting that last week, Tesla announced discounts on several models marketed in Israel. These discounts are part of a global trend, with similar reductions seen in other markets.
