Noam Bardin's social media platform raised money from the likes of Andreesen Horowitz, but according to Bardin “our service is not growing fast enough to become a real business or a significant platform”
Noam Bardin, former CEO of Waze and VP at Google, has announced the closure of his social platform Post News. Bardin declared in November of 2022 that he was launching Post with the aim for it to become “a civil place to debate ideas; learn from experts, journalists, individual creators, and each other; converse freely; and have some fun.”
The platform quickly launched a live beta, perhaps looking to benefit from the chaos at Twitter following Elon Musk’s takeover. It raised money from Andreesen Horowitz (a16z) and Scott Galloway, but was unable to create a sustainable business model.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share this sad news with you. Despite how much we’ve accomplished together, we will be shutting down Post News within the next few weeks,” Bardin wrote on Post News. “We have done many great things together. We built a toxicity-free community, a platform where Publishers engage, and an app that validated many theories around Micropayments and consumers’ willingness to purchase individual articles. We even managed to cultivate a phenomenal tipping ecosystem for creators and commenters.
“But, at the end of the day, our service is not growing fast enough to become a real business or a significant platform. A consumer business, at its core, needs to show rapid consumer adoption and we have not managed to find the right product combination to make it happen.”
