Title: "Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life”
Author: Grant Cardone
Format: Book, Audiobook
Where: Home, Other
Summary:
Whether it's selling your company's product in the boardroom or selling yourself on eating healthy, everything in life can and should be treated as a sale. And as sales expert Grant Cardone explains, knowing the principles of selling is a prerequisite for success of any kind.
In “Sell or Be Sold”, Cardone breaks down the techniques and approaches necessary to master the art of selling in any avenue. You will learn how to handle rejection, turn around negative situations, shorten sales cycles, and guarantee yourself greatness.
Important themes:
In his book, “Sell or Be Sold”, Grant Cardone goes over several fundamentals which aren’t usually covered in Sales Training or education:
- Selling in a bad economy: Grant Cardone went through a couple of recessions himself as a salesperson, from the early-90s through the explosion of the dot-com bubble and including the 2008 crisis, and of course Covid-19. Grant explains how a salesperson should operate in a recession economy which is a game-changer!
- Overcoming call reluctance: Reaching out to someone over the phone could be one of the most difficult mental exercises that exist. How do you overcome that challenge?
- Staying positive, despite rejection: One of the most important soft skills or attributes of a successful sales professional is grit. How do you keep your grit and resilience getting 15-20 nos, or even more, a day?
What I’ve learned:
Essentially my most important takeaway from this book is that literally everything in our life is a sale, whether we like it or not. Selling ourselves to our spouse, “selling” the bank we should get a loan/mortgage on better terms, selling ourselves in a job interview, or pitching your idea to investors: that is a sales process.
Critiques:
Grant Cardone is selling 100% of his life. He also sells some of his other books or services in this book, which I would highly appreciate not being upsold, and instead just having a nice read.
Who should read this book:
Even if you’re not looking to get into tech sales or any type of sales role, it will help you understand you are a salesperson even if you think you are not.
