“Six of the seven Garage team members joined reserve duty on the 8th of October, and our doors were closed for a bit more than three months,” says The Garage Managing Partner Eyal Redler to CTech at Calcalist’s Mind the Tech conference in New York.
“Much of our deal flow comes from alumni of the security forces, intelligence, so obviously a lot of these people were going back to the army as well.”
The Garage is a Bank Leumi-backed VC firm focused on early-stage startups operating in the fintech and enterprise sectors.
Regarding how the war will impact entrepreneurship, Redler thinks that the large number of returning reservists will precipitate a boom in new ventures. “I think that people are asking themselves existential questions about what they want to do with their life,” says Redler.
“One day they’re commanding hundreds of people, dealing with people's lives, and its not easy for them to come back to their mundane work the day after. So, I think some people are going to change what they do in life. I hope that’s going to support or contribute to the number of new startups that we’re going to see. Whoever is an entrepreneur in his or her spirit might use the opportunity to start something new.
