“Traditionally, Israeli founders and Israeli startups went to the Valley. This was where the big money was,” said Eyal Bino, Founding Partner at 97212 Ventures. “I'd say in 2010/2011 it started to shift and change and much more capital went into New York City. You can see probably over 300 funds based in New York with about 70-80% of them focused on Seed and Series A.”
Bino joined CTech to discuss 97212 Ventures, which got its name by merging the two telephone area codes (Israel’s 972 and NYC’s 212) to symbolize the relationship between the two regions. The fund is based in New York and fully focused on investing in Israeli pre-Seed and Seed startups looking to expand to the American market with a specific focus on the New York market.
“Some of the most successful startups are being built here in New York by Israeli founders employing hundreds of employees, New Yorkers and Israelis,” Bino added, highlighting companies like Taboola, Outbrain, and Kaltura. “I think the brand that Israeli startups have developed over the last 10 years has been amazing and beautiful to see. And I feel I'm very fortunate to be having a front-row seat in this ecosystem.”
