“We see a lot of focus now on defensetech from investors”
Idan Shimon, Co-Founder and CEO at Wonder Robotics, spoke about the booming defensetech industry and what that means for business.
Wonder Robotics is developing high-end autonomy for drones focusing on the defense market. “We can see a big change in the last couple of years in the battlefield where drones serve more and more use cases, from surveillance to loiter ammunitions to interception,” said Idan Shimon, Co-Founder and CEO at Wonder Robotics. “And what we are trying to do is to provide drones with autonomy, autonomous capabilities that will allow them to fly without GPS, to fly without the operator, and engage targets without a human operator.”
Shimon was speaking to CTech at Calcalist and Poalim Tech’s Roadshow+ event, where VCs and startups networked to see whether there were any collaboration opportunities. The company is focused on the military applications of drones and currently has ongoing projects in Israel with all three of its branches: the Navy, the Army, and the Air Force.
“It's clear that when we started a couple of a few years ago, defensetech was graded relatively low in the priorities of different venture capitals,” he continued. “But we see a big change in that. We see a lot of focus now on defensetech coming from investors as well as from the companies themselves. We see a shift in the activity of companies like ourselves. We were also working in the commercial market, but now shifted all the way to defense because of all the needs over there.”
