Sheba Medical Center unveils three new AI centers for hospital care

The AI Center, ‘Project K’, and an AI Academy each mark a significant shift in the integration of AI into modern medicine.

Sheba Medical Center, recently ranked the eighth-best hospital in the world by Newsweek, has announced three new initiatives to transform hospital operations and patient care. Through its innovation arm, ARC, Sheba has launched an AI Center, ‘Project K’, an AI-powered emergency department, and an AI Academy - each of which marks a significant shift in the integration of AI into modern medicine.
“AI is no longer just an abstract concept—it’s a force that is actively reshaping healthcare,” said Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Director General of Sheba Medical Center. “By embedding AI into the fabric of hospital care, we are ensuring that every patient receives faster, smarter, and more personalized treatment.”

The AI Center will bring together startups, research teams, and technology companies to create and implement AI-driven healthcare solutions. Led by Dr. Ayelet Akselrod-Ballin, the center will focus on early disease detection, precision diagnostics, and personalized medicine. “With Sheba’s extensive medical data resources and strong partnerships, we are positioned to develop AI solutions that will shape the future of medicine at scale,” she said.
Project K is the world’s first AI-powered emergency department, which streamlines patient intake by compiling medical histories automatically, reducing paperwork, and improving diagnostic accuracy. It can also recommend tests, summarize patient records, and assist doctors in prioritizing critical cases. With AI, doctors can manage multiple patients more efficiently, leading to faster and more effective emergency care.
“We are not just implementing AI in medicine—we are building the world’s first truly AI-powered hospital,” said Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Director of ARC Innovation and Sheba’s Chief AI Officer. “This transformation will make hospital care more precise, efficient, and patient-centered than ever before.”
Finally, the hospital has announced Sheba AI Academy, an initiative designed to equip medical professionals with AI-driven skills. Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff will receive training in AI-powered clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and hospital operations. Through digital courses, hands-on workshops, and real-world AI application training, Sheba aims to ensure that every staff member is “AI-enabled” and prepared for the next generation of healthcare in a fast-changing landscape.
To support these new initiatives, ARC is actively recruiting AI researchers, data scientists, and machine learning professionals to join its AI Center.
