Qualcomm Ventures: Not every “AI” technology is actually AI
Boaz Peer, Israel and Europe Manager at Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of global chip giant Qualcomm, spoke to CTech at Calcalist and Bank Leumi’s Tech TLV conference about investing in the age of AI.
“We’re a $2 billion fund with 160 companies in our portfolio. We invest in mobile, AI, AI infrastructure via MLOPs etc, Enterprise and cloud, data center infrastructure, automotives, smart system, IOT, robotics, and cyber,” says Qualcomm Ventures Israel and Europe Manager Boaz Peer to CTech at Calcalist and Bank Leumi’s Tech TLV conference.
“We’re a financial and strategic fund. We’re looking for companies that are relevant to Qualcomm, of course, with strong teams and technology. We have a deep understanding of these fields because we come from Qualcomm.”
Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of chip giant Qualcomm, began operating over 20 years ago and expanded its presence in Israel in 2011. Since then, it has made investments in numerous companies, including Waze, SentinelOne, Prospera, Wilocity, Wiliot, Weka.IO, and many others.
“AI has entered every technology and segment - but not every product is actually AI even if they claim that it is. Some companies are using AI but it's not really part of their core technology,” says Peer. “But there is no doubt that AI has pushed the entire ecosystem in a very meaningful way. We’ve invested a lot in AI this last year, but not only.”
