Racheli Kogan, the first employee at Symbol, has been appointed as Partner alongside Yuval Ariav, the founder of the fund. Kogan leads the fund's investment activities and its support for portfolio companies.
Kogan joined Yuval Ariav, the founder of Symbol, immediately upon its establishment at the end of 2021, and has been involved in all 11 investments made by the fund to date, as well as in the fund's activities with portfolio companies and for the benefit of the Israeli ecosystem in general. Symbol VC, with a $50 million under management, is a first-check investor, with investments ranging from $500,000 to $3.5 million. Symbol focuses on ‘pre consensus’ entrepreneurs and startups - meaning entrepreneurs with an unconventional track record or startups operating in fields considered to be hard for VCs to invest in at early stages.
Symbol was established at the end of 2021 and invested in the first funding round of 11 companies, seven of which have already raised subsequent rounds. Among the startups in which the fund has invested are Sightful, Breeze, Nilus, CardinalOps, Squire, and Jiga, two of which are graduates of the prestigious Y Combinator startup accelerator program.
Born in Russia, Kogan grew up in Arad, and completed a bachelor's degree in Economics and Psychology, and a master's degree in Law. She served as the HR manager at Next Silicon, and at the fintech company Fundbox, where she led the company's global expansion from 30 to 250 employees. Prior to that, she was the HR manager at Paretix and Leverate, and a recruiter at the Nisha Group. After her tenure at Fundbox, she joined as a consultant to Aleph VC to support its recruitment team. Additionally, Kogan was involved from the beginning in the establishment of the Give and Tech nonprofit.
"My approach throughout my career, and in life in general, is that deep and authentic relationships create a safe space for creativity, provide the confidence to take risks, and thus also advance groundbreaking ideas,” said Kogan. “One of my main goals at Symbol is to create this environment for both the entrepreneurs of the portfolio companies we have invested in, and for founder-curious people from the entire Israeli ecosystem. At Symbol we strive to create a supportive environment, based on genuine connections, for entrepreneurs who have already established a company and are working on implementing their dreams, as well as for those who are just beginning to dream."
