API security startup Wib acquired by F5 for tens of millions of dollars
The Israeli startup’s platform provides complete visibility across the entire API landscape, from code to production, and will become part of F5’s Distributed Cloud Services
Cybersecurity startup Wib, which has developed an API security platform, has been acquired by U.S. cyber giant F5. The companies did not reveal the value of the acquisition, but it is estimated to be in the region of tens of millions of dollars.
As AI drives growth in the volume of apps and APIs, it is adding significant security challenges that companies must solve. The protection of these API connections and the data that runs through them is a critical security challenge that companies must face as they deploy more AI-enabled services.
F5, which has a market cap of approximately $11 billion on Nasdaq, will add Wib’s capabilities to its Distributed Cloud Services, enabling vulnerability detection and observability in application development processes, ensuring that risks are identified and policies implemented before APIs enter production.
Wib’s API security platform provides complete visibility across the entire API landscape, from code to production. By delivering real-time inspection, management, and control at every stage of the API lifecycle, Wib can automate inventory and API change management; identify rogue, zombie, and shadow APIs, and analyze business risk and impact.
Wib raised a $16 million investment in November 2022 led by Koch Disruptive Technologies (KDT), the growth and venture arm of Koch Industries, with participation from Kmehin Ventures, Venture Israel, Techstars, and existing investors.
Wib is headquartered in Tel Aviv, with international presence in Houston and London. It was founded in August 2021 by serial entrepreneur Gil Don (CEO), Ran Ohayon (CRO), and Tal Steinherz, who previously served as the CTO of Israel’s national cyber directorate.
Wib’s employees have joined F5 headquarters in Israel. This is F5’s fifth acquisition in Israel following Versafe, which provided web anti-fraud, anti-phishing and anti-malware solutions, load management solutions company Traffix Systems, MagniFire Websystems and Crescendo Networks.
Wib was represented in the deal by Advs. Yoav Etzion and Assaf Baruch from Amit, Pollak, Matalon & Co.
