Debbie Shapiro appointed Israel Director at the UK Department for Business & Trade, British Embassy Tel Aviv

The British Embassy Tel Aviv has appointed Debbie Shapiro as its Israel Director at the UK Department for Business & Trade. She brings 20 years of experience with a background in venture capital, business development, strategic relationships, and executive leadership.
"The UK government's number one priority is economic growth and it's clear that trade and investment are central to that," said Shapiro. "I'm excited about the opportunity to drive bilateral trade between the UK and Israel on behalf of Britain's Department for Business and Trade."

Before joining the embassy, Shapiro worked at Amazon Web Services, where she led the creation of a team for early-stage startup ecosystem business development across EMEA. She led a team of business development, sales, marketing, and technical experts while nurturing relationships with startup and venture capital ecosystem partners.
Before that, she played a role in AWS's venture capital and startup outreach in Israel and the U.S., driving revenue-impacting vertical strategies in areas such as cybersecurity, fintech, aerospace, robotics, agritech, healthcare, and life sciences.
Prior to joining AWS, Shapiro was a Principal on the investment team at Viola Ventures where she led marketing teams at several Israeli startups. In addition to her role at the British Embassy Tel Aviv, Shapiro is a startup mentor and serves as a mentor at Nevo, a professional network and community for new immigrants (Olim) to Israel from across the Israeli tech ecosystem.
