Rubrik enhances Microsoft 365 Copilot security with Israeli-developed technology

The new product, Rubrik Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for Microsoft 365 Copilot, was largely developed at Rubrik's R&D center in Israel, established after the acquisition of Israeli startup Laminar.

Rubrik, a cyber resilience and data security company, has partnered with Microsoft to enhance the security of Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI-powered assistant. The new product, Rubrik Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) for Microsoft 365 Copilot, will provide increased visibility and control over sensitive data. It aims to reduce the risk of data exposure and allow organizations to adopt Copilot quickly and securely.
The technology behind DSPM for Microsoft 365 Copilot was largely developed at Rubrik's R&D center in Israel. The center was established after Rubrik's acquisition of Israeli startup Laminar. Amit Shaked, co-founder and former CEO of Laminar, leads Rubrik’s Israeli operations and serves as VP of DSPM Strategy, Growth, and Monetization.

Rubrik acquired Laminar in August 2023 for $105 million, $91 million in cash and the remainder in shares, with Laminar's shareholders also receiving the startup’s remaining funds. Laminar had raised $67 million since its establishment in August 2020.
With organizations facing pressure to improve security for their growing data volumes, Rubrik DSPM for Microsoft 365 Copilot offers a way to safeguard critical assets while enabling the use of AI tools. Microsoft 365 Copilot uses AI to generate answers based on an organization's business content. To ensure it only surfaces data that users are authorized to view, Copilot adheres to the same data access controls as Microsoft 365. However, misconfigurations in these controls could expose sensitive data.
Shaked highlights the importance of this new solution, explaining that AI advancements, while beneficial, introduce new risks to data protection. The collaboration with Microsoft aims to allow organizations to adopt AI safely while maintaining data security. He also expressed pride in the Israeli team's contribution to developing this cutting-edge technology.
