“I feel [enthusiasm] in Israel the most, but I have to say that when we won a small grant from the GFI, the Good Food Institute, and went to Lisbon, I saw that same enthusiasm in Europe and the U.S. I feel like people know we cannot keep on killing animals just for food. We have to find solutions,” said Dana Yarden, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at BioBetter.
Israeli startup BioBetter, the winner of the FoodTech 2022 competition sponsored by Calcalist and Tnuva Ventures, joined CTech shortly after the announcement to discuss the state of the FoodTech sector. The company uses tobacco plants to produce growth factors on a large scale and at low costs.
“There are very good solutions in terms of alternative protein,” Yarden continued. “People really like to eat meat and there are markets that will have a demand for meat no matter the consequences. I'm talking about China and India. For them, we have to find a solution for real meat. I feel a lot of enthusiasm around cultivated meat and you can see it in the amount of money that is being raised - which is enormous.”
