The shopping giant eBay will lay off dozens of its employees in Israel, most of them from the buyer experience department, Calcalist has learned. This is the third round of layoffs for the company in Israel and the fourth worldwide, with one round previously bypassing Israel. In the previous round, an estimated 30 employees were fired.
The company stated, "The changes being made in Israel are part of eBay's global business strategy aimed at providing a more efficient and tailored response to the company's customers. This was a difficult decision, especially considering the situation in Israel. At the same time, the Israeli site continues to be an integral part of eBay's ability to realize its product strategy."
eBay's research and development center in Netanya began its activity in 2005 with the purchase of the price comparison website Shopping.com for approximately $620 million, and several years later, it also purchased Gift Project for an undisclosed amount.
This is the second wave of reorganization that the company is undergoing at a global level. The first wave was in February this year when about 500 workers were laid off worldwide, including several dozen in Israel.
