Viridix raises $4.1 million for its precision irrigation technology service
By using Viridix's technology, farmers can save water, increase crop yields, improve crop quality, and ultimately boost profits
Israeli agtech company Viridix has announced that it has raised $4.1 million. The company, which was established in 2016, offers a precise irrigation system that helps growers get a clear picture of their crops’ irrigation needs by incorporating a hassle-free Root Sense soil sensor and supporting SaaS software. The investors, who are a mix of angel investors and VCs, could not be disclosed.
"We are thrilled to have the support of our investors, both new and existing, as we continue our mission to bring affordable precision irrigation knowledge to farmers all over the world," said Arik Shetrit, CEO of Viridix. "This will help our goal of creating food security and protecting our environment for future generations.
As part of this funding round, Viridix's advisory board has expanded with the addition of Barak Soreni, former CEO of Psagot, one of the largest and oldest investment houses in Israel, and Oded Shosayov, an entrepreneur and a top professor at Hebrew University.
With the world’s population continuing to grow, so too does the demand for food. Farmers who must meet this demand are required to produce more crops than ever before. But using finite resources can become more challenging, as farmers work on a way to be more sustainable or economically mindful of their irrigation outputs. The company’s new Irrigation on-demand feature enables fully automatic irrigation based on the plants' needs. By using Viridix's technology, farmers can save water, increase crop yields, improve crop quality, and ultimately boost profits.
Viridix already has customers in Israel and abroad, such as UAE-based date producer Al Foah and Mottech Water Solutions, a distributor of Motorola solutions which will help with the landscaping market both in Israel and Australia through an app.
According to Start-up Nation Central, “Viridix’s autonomous irrigation solution has been proven in multiple cases to save up to 30% of irrigation water, making it a highly efficient and eco-friendly option for farmers and growers.”
With the new funding, Viridix will be able to extend its solutions to more farmers worldwide, helping to create a more sustainable future. In 2020, the company partnered with Talgil, a manufacturer of professional irrigation controllers. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Israel, the company operates in 22 countries worldwide. It is headquartered in Modi'in, Israel.
