BigID is the winner of Intuit’s Data Classification challenge in rapid identification of sensitive data within massive datasets

Held by Intuit for Startups, the challenge drew 20 data-management companies and start-ups from Israel and the US, all competing on their AI-powered tools to identify personal information within a synthetic dataset and label it accordingly. BigID reached a near-perfect accuracy rate, higher than that of all other companies participating in this challenge

In this challenge, Intuit was looking to identify best-in-class solutions for data classification to protect sensitive data.
Announced by Intuit for Startups in July, The “Data Classification Challenge” invited leading data companies in the US and Israel to take part in a first-of-its-kind innovation challenge where data companies were requested to quickly and accurately classify a synthetic dataset of 20K+ records. In total, around 20 companies applied to the challenge.

As part of this challenge, Intuit’s security team created a unique rich dataset of synthetic unstructured data with over 40k records, half of which was provided for training, and half used for evaluation. The solutions were measured through an algorithm according to the precision/recall calculations for the different data types, in addition to a global, cross-label evaluation. BigID’s solution stood out as they were able to accurately classify the selected 36 data types, with the weighted precision/recall score of 96.5%.
BigID will receive a $10,000 prize and will meet senior Intuit leaders to explore future collaboration.
“Data protection is paramount to Intuit”, explains Gleb Keselman, Director of security software engineering at Intuit. “As a global fintech serving 100 million customers with products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we manage huge amounts of unique financial data.
