Enlight launches two solar fields in Gaza envelope amid war
Enlight’s facilities, which will be operated commercially, were established near Yesha and Re'im. In total, five facilities will be established in the area surrounding Gaza.
Renewable energy company Enlight has begun commercial operation of two solar fields in the Western Negev or Gaza Envelope with a total capacity of 16 megawatts of solar and 94 megawatt-hours of storage. The facilities were established near the moshav Yesha and Kibbutz Re'im, making up the company's 8th and 9th integrated solar storage projects in Israel.
Led by CEO Gilad Yavetz, by the end of the year, Enlight expects to establish another three integrated solar storage projects in Israel, making up a total of 12 such projects. The combined capacity of the facilities will be about 250 megawatts and about 600 megawatt-hours of storage.
Enlight estimates that the establishment of all the projects across the country will yield revenues of about NIS 128-135 ($35-36 million) in the first full year of operation (2025). The company expects that the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization from the projects will amount to NIS 88-93 million in the first year of operation ($24-25 million).
Despite Israel’s war in Gaza, the projects were connected ahead of the original schedule. Gilad Peled, CEO of Enlight MENA, the company's arm responsible for the Middle East and North Africa says that: "Enlight continues its momentum of building and is pleased to announce the commercial operation of the third and fourth facilities in the Gaza envelope (a total of five) since the events of October 2023. The projects are coming into commercial operation ahead of the scheduled timetable, thanks to close cooperation with the Israel Electric Corporation and security authorities."
