“I think it is something that we noticed from Covid, not just in recent weeks: we do see many women turn to independent businesses as an occupation rather than be employed,” explained Tsofit Gordon, CEO at Yozmot Atid. The NGO was established in 2015 to help women coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and help them create their own independent businesses as an alternative occupation.
“We do see the need to create a more sustainable occupation, livelihood, or something which is more relevant and flexible for the needs of the house and the family, and for themselves,” she continued. “Everything is expensive right now and [they] can't make ends meet. Women are looking for an alternative to create something which is more solid and more sustainable.”
The organization receives 7,000 applications per year and 1,000 women are screened to assess viability for future businesses. You can learn more about it in the video above.
