Contech startup Versatile appoints Eishay Smith as new CEO
Smith succeeds Meirav Oren, the company's founder, who transitions to the role of active chairman
Contech startup Versatile has appointed Eishay Smith as the new CEO, succeeding Meirav Oren, the company's founder, who transitions to the role of active chairman. Unlike Oren, Smith, who previously served as the company’s General Manager in Israel and CTO, will oversee operations from Israel, while Oren continues her chairmanship from Silicon Valley.
“I will continue to lead strategic initiatives remotely, leveraging my unique founder-market fit for the company's benefit,” Oren told Calcalist. “It is very important for me to consolidate the company's management in Israel to propel growth.”
In 2021, Versatile secured $80 million in a Series B funding round led by Insight Partners and Tiger Global Management. The company specializes in software that enhances cranes with advanced technological capabilities.
The company made a strategic organizational change at the end of 2022 that also included the cancellation of activities in the U.S. and Israel and the departure of Oren is part of that same move that continued throughout 2023 and will be completed in 2024. The company returned to growing and recruiting employees mainly in Israel after Smith's arrival in the country last year.
In total, at its peak, the company employed about 80 employees, before firing 24 employees, and it intends to return to this size in 2024.
