Israelis shouldn’t fear the UK’s new Labour government, says Chamber of Commerce
Anita Leviant, President of the Israel-British Chamber of Commerce and Innovation, spoke to CTech during Mind The Tech in London.
“We all know that there were times when the Labour government was identified with a sort of Antisemitism and a feeling against Israel,” said Anita Leviant, President of the Israel-British Chamber of Commerce. “Of course, this is a generalization and of course, they did some activities since then. The fact is that since the Labour government started operating, we have very good indications and several announcements and statements which enhance our confidence and make us feel good.”
Leviant was speaking to CTech’s Ariela Karmel at Mind The Tech in London, the flagship conference from Calcalist and Bank Leumi that celebrates collaboration between Israel and the UK. Amid a change in government, the Israel-British Chamber of Commerce is ensuring members of the Jewish community that the political party that once was labeled institutionally antisemitic will continue a healthy relationship with Israel.
“One of the very first thing they did was to announce the renewal of the negotiation on a new Free Trade Agreement between Israel and the UK,” Leviant continued, referring to the current agreement originally signed in 1995. “This was before Internet, smartphones and of course, AI that transformed our lives in such a dramatic way. So when the agreement is talking about services it doesn't include all the software, the digital world and now this new agreement would take us into a new era and will boost trade and investments and innovations between the countries.”
