"Our uniqueness as a law firm is that we've been working for many years with Japanese companies active and investing in Israel as well as Israeli companies already active in Japan and those seeking to penetrate the Japanese market," Eylam Weiss, a partner at the Tel Aviv-based law firm Weiss, Porat & Co., told CTech at the Israel-Japan Conference in Tokyo. When asked about which sectors his Japanese-facing Israeli clients come from he cited cybersecurity, food-tech, and software.
Concerning legal hurdles that arise in bridging gaps between Israel-Japan dealings, Weiss cited cultural difference and different legal systems, with Israel following common law similar to that in the U.S. and UK, while the Japanese legal system is more similar to the French or German civil law system.
Summing up, Weiss said: "Japanese corporations have come to understand that they need Israeli innovations and that this is something they must invest in. I am very optimistic that this trend will continue."
