Warner Brothers VP: "The merger with Discovery allowed us to expand our operations"
"We are a 100-year-old brand,” Kenechi Belusevic, VP Business Development & Distribution at Warner Bros. Discovery said at the Mind the Tech London conference. "We will continue to enrich our content, reach a global audience and tell good stories because this is the DNA of our company"
"Using technology to analyze and understand consumer behavior allows us to move forward" - said Kenechi Belusevic, vice president of business development and distribution at the media giant Warner Bros. Discovery, at the Mind The Tech conference of Calcalist and Bank Leumi held in London. "We are a 100-year-old brand," she added. "We will continue to enrich our content, reach a global audience and tell good stories because this is the DNA of our company."
Belusevic opened her remarks by reviewing the tectonic changes that the global entertainment industry has undergone in recent years. "We experienced a tremendous change. First there was the pandemic - movie theaters closed, our collective attention turned to screens in homes and people discovered streaming services. They consumed hours and hours of content. Then the world started to open up and we wondered how much of this behavior would last. Suddenly Netflix, the largest streaming service in the world, has reached the ceiling of subscriber growth.
"At the same time, the economic situation became challenging," she continued. "Investors began to understand that the market was saturated and questioned the large investments in content and recruiting subscribers. How can a young streaming service attract consumers who want to limit the amount of money they spend on entertainment and content? The battle for attention has intensified because we are competing in the market with many players for a limited resource of money and time, and also against content used on platforms such as YouTube and Tiktok."
Belusevic noted that Warner Bros. is currently in an excellent position, having completed the merger with Discovery. "It gave us a bigger foothold, an opportunity to expand the company's activities both geographically and in terms of platforms. The wealth of our brands creates a huge ecosystem. It gives us confidence that we can adapt to the situation, and connect with the desires of audiences all over the world."
Calcalist's annual Mind the Tech London conference focused this year on the changes experienced by the high-tech sector over the past year. The conference assessed how the shakeup in the markets affected the high-tech economy, reviewed the next trends in the world of technology, as well as which sectors took a leap forward and those that received an opportunity to reassess their course.
